Assembled in Indonesia

 Never had a real job

I agree with the sentiment to buy products 'made in
America.'  But this sounds to me like a case of politicians making an
issue of a non-issue to try to grab some press, gain a little
conservative favor, and create a big political smokescreen to hide the fact that they've done a crappy job of doing their jobs.

Honestly, what clothes on your back were made in
America?  Certainly nothing you bought at Costco, Kohl's, or Target; or any other department store in America!  And our beloved Levi's - about as American as a clothing brand can get - are made outside the US, although a few of their
higher end more expensive styles are still made in the U.S. (but use imported fabric).  I imagine this isn't just an 'American' issue as the world's garment industry rests in just a few countries.

Just my 2-cents...
I seem to recall that the US Military purchased several hundred Toyota trucks/vehicles a few years
ago, but I can't find any online articles about it now - if true, THAT would get me really pissed.  I flew into Frankfurt, Germany, a few weeks ago and noticed that ALL the vehicles being used at the airport - cars,
buses, tractors, etc. were German - Mercedes, BMW, Audi, VW - as I
would expect. Without question, all US government fleet vehicles should be US
vehicles, without exception.

To be honest, I could care less where the Olympic athlete's sponsored clothing came from. I wish our politicians (and the public) were outraged over deficit budgets, an ever expanding bureaucratic government that spends money it doesn't have, a broken social security system, the fact that many of our elected officials are excluded from social security and Obamacare (because they have their own 'specia'l plans), a welfare system designed to keep recipients dependent on the state rather than encourage independence and responsible behavior, roads and infrastructure that have not been properly maintained or improved to keep pace with the increased need/usage based on population (I-5 in CA still has the same 2 lanes each direction between the SF Bay Area and LA that it had when first opened, yet the state's population has nearly tripled). These are REAL issues.  The Olympic clothing issue is not. It's just a big smokescreen opportunity for politicians to
grab some media attention and divert taxpayers attention away from the real issues.

Ok, I'll get off my soapbox.  You all feel free to debate the issue and flame me.  I'll return when there's DeTomaso content again.

Cheers!
Garth
