Think that was the premise behind the Terminator series. Skynet became "self
aware"....and realized that the human race posed a legitimate threat to the
planet....etc.

Lol. Admittedly fascinating. Very science fiction in the 80s', but not so
far fetched now...   ;)

This is veering pretty far afield, but there is a sci-fi writer I like
Charles Stross, and there is a lot of discussion about the "singularity"
where a machine becomes conscious and communicative (I assume by deciding to
"kill all humans" but that's just me).  It is thought that this will be
inadvertent, a consequence of something else that requires a lot of computer
smarts to figure out.

So spambots get smarter, and defenses get smarter.  We'll always have
spambots because... well, they work.  Cheap to compromise a mass of
computers, hard to catch the perp.  So this will continuously escalate
until...

Singularity.

The problem is, will it be the intelligent spambot, or the intelligent
defender?  Or will they join like in the movie Colossus?

Just sayin...
