[DeTomaso] Mecum auction

I missed the real time auction yesterday, so I stayed up to watch the rerun last night just to see what was said about the blue Pantera. I was interested on what "interesting" facts the talking heads would say about the car during the bidding. What a disappointment.

Not sure who was talking but the "expert" said that Gian Paolo Dallara designed the car and approached Ford to put a 351 in it. No mention of Detomaso at all. Then went on to say the car was a great car when it ran BUT it was difficult to maintain and was prone to "fall apart". These mechanical failings was cited why Ford pulled the plug on the car, never mentioning the gas crisis or impending safety regulations that would have required major redesign.

I had assumed these guys know what they are talking about but now I'll take their commentary with a grain of salt.

Sorry....no VIN listed.

I was watching the Mecum auction from Kissimmee, FL last night and saw a
'72 french blue Pantera go through, it was a no sale at $52,500. Nice
original car with 18000 miles.
