Dear Mike,

Your comment, "They were crappy tires in the 70's, now they're 40 year-old dangerous crappy tires" reminded me of an unplesant moment with my Arrivas in 1988.

I bought my first Pantera in 1988 with only 2000 miles on it. I proceeded to drive it fully intoxicated by the new ownership of a formidable, powerful and beautiful Pantera that was awesome. Then one evening in the early months of ownership, I was pushing it ever so slightly in a turn and had the definite experience of understeer. Mercifully, nothing happened except the realization that the Arrivas didn't stick worth a darn. Then next step was Pirelli P7s, which were better, but still a bit disappointing. It has taken years of fiddling with mods and upgrades and contemporary tires to achieve the handling that I *thought* was present when I bought the Pantera all those years ago. Sigh. Live and learn. Yes, the Arrivas are only suitable for display purposes in my opinion.

Warmest regards, Chuck Engles
