I normally delete threads like this on this list, but I had to reply to
this one because it is very misleading. We are not a net oil exporter! This
is for refined oil products and amounted to about $80 billion annually in
exports, which helps. But we still import more than 10 million barrels of
crude oil every day at a cost of more than $350 billion per year. We are
nowhere close to energy independence.

North America has more energy in natural gas than oil in the Middle East.
Comparing the carbon footprint, ethanol from corn is a joke compared to
natural gas. If President Obama was serious about energy independence he
would have signed an executive order his first day in office that all new
federal vehicles purchased had to be able to run on natural gas. This
builds out the infrastructure needed for consumers to be able to buy
vehicles powered by natural gas and be able to refill while on the road.
Natural gas in hybrid vehicles makes so much sense.

And yesterday President Obama denied the permit to build the Keystone XL
pipeline from Canada to Texas. This isn't the end for this, so hopefully in
the end it will be built. This will only improve our exports of refined oil
products. Otherwise, China will pay to have a pipeline built to British
Columbia to fill tankers destined for Asia.

Cheers,

Denny
