Charlie, its possible to test your decklid shocks using bathroom scales
with a board or plate on it to keep from denting the scales. From Larry at
PPC-Carson City the word is, you do NOT want to exceed about 100 lbs of pressure
or you risk bending either the decklid, the roof or the hinges, or breaking
the flimsy welded mounts on the inner fenders. If your wing adds enough
weight to exceed 100 lbs of load, use a 6" long hold-open device that simply
snaps onto one rod- which Larry sells. There ARE some decklid shocks available
for holding SUV rear doors etc that go up to 120 lbs, but using them on a
Pantera is NOT advised.
Finally, the rod end on many small diameter decklid shocks are removeable,
which is handy because they are made with rod-ends and forked-ends. Hall
tends to sell forked-end shocks. The ends unscrew and may interchange if the
threads are the same. This is handy if you already have shocks of one type
that are worn out and cannot find proper replacements with ends that match your
previous hardware. Good luck- J Deryke
