[DeTomaso] Why support the registry?

That's what I was thinking as I watched the video also-- the ins. co would get the profit, not him, unless he didn't report the theft and take his money

Likely someone called the ins. co and said "We have recovered a 1965 Ford, do you want it?" to a secretary somewhere who knows nothing about such things and she said, "No, not worth our time." He probably just got lucky. :-)

If that car had been insured ( against theft) and a claim paid by the
nsurance company , the insurance company would have gotten the windfall
ot the former marine. And you can bet they wouldn't have reimbursed the
atest "owner for the $12,000 he spent on the motor.
I bought a land cruiser that had been "tagged" and the theft and vin
lteration discovered after I had resold the car. The discovery and seizure
f the tagged Land cruiser started a law suit daisy chain that went down
hill until it hit the first guy that got burned. The original thief is
arely caught because he is the only one that knows the car is hot and
sually covers his tracks well. Plus a judgement against a car thief (if
ou can find him) is usually not worth much.
 got whacked for $50,000!

 Hi guys,

Here's a perfect example of why the De Tomaso registry is so important.
This story got busted wide open by Howard Pardee, who runs the '65 GT350
registry for the Shelby American Automobile Club (SAAC).

Substitute "Pantera" for "GT350" and think about it....
