Hi guys,

I asked Roger Brotton, club secretary for the UK De Tomaso club, about the
Pantera used in the Jackie Stewart show (owned by John Page--I simply
couldn't remember that fellow's name to save my life), and he wrote back to me
thusly:

Hello, Mike,

I arranged for John Page to do this programme.  It was on TV the other
night, but I missed it.  The BBC mucked us about as usual, but John decided to
do it anyway, including getting his car transported to Austria and back, by
the BBC, instead of one of our club members who does this thing all the
time.

Johns rad fans work off a manual switch, under the dash. and they all
forgot to switch them on...............engine boiled up .......buggered
engine.....I did warn him that the BBC and the celebs alike don't give a shit, but he
let them anyway.  Wouldn't you think that two professional drivers would
know when an engine is getting too hot ???   The gauges are not there just to
fill in holes in the dash!

The BBC will now have to foot the bill for the repairs, which defeats the
object of them whinging about our estimated costs for doing it in the first
place.  TV shoots, and indeed magazine shoots are for the most part a total
waste of everybodies time and effort.  I don't get involved.....the above is
the reason why.

All the best from all over here to all over there, for 2013.

Regards
 Roger

=========

I've reached out to John directly to get his VIN for the registry; I had
previously sent him some parts when he first got the car, including the
bumperettes, truly excellent pieces used to replace the L-model bumpers. Both
Hall and Bobby Byars carry them, at quite reasonable cost, and the quality is
excellent. When the existing stock runs out I don't know if they will be
able to replace them, so if you have an L-model and are considering the
switch, as John has done, I would at least buy the bumpers now....

Mike
