[DeTomaso] MSD wiring diagram?

Mike & Mike

I'm having trouble posting to the forum but here is an answer to Mike
(Drew's) question.

The MSD "ready to run" distributor is merely a points replacement type which
only emulates a set of mechanical points. It uses the conventional current
interruption mode of inducing high voltage at the coil output. While it is
does supply a more relible and more accurate spark than a set of points, it
doesn't provide the full benefits of an MSD6 capacitive discharge box. The
MSD6 provides a way hotter spark and multiple sparks at below 3000 RPM. The
351C, especially when cold, greatly benenfits from muti-spark. The
ready-to-run distributor will also operate to a higher RPM when coupled to
an MSD box than without it. This is due to coil saturation effects that
occur at high RPM when only using the "ready to run" alone.

Well, good question. One answer would be that I didn't realize the ready to
run obviated the need for the box, the second would be that I wanted a rev
limiter chit, and I don't recall a location to put that in the distributor
(I could be, as I often am, wrong on that, so please update me), the third
would be that I have inadvertently provided myself a backup should my box
barf and I need to get home with a little hasty rewiring.

Hmm, guess not.

If anyone out there would like to see what Doug created for me, let me know
and I'll send it directly. Doug is our local electrical guru, and an
electrical engineer by profession. This schematic is first class, and done
to show the links to the stock wiring harness.

>>>Yes, it is a beautiful drawing!

What is odd is the fact that it states that you have an MSD ready-to-run
distributor, but you ALSO have an MSD box? The distributor has the
electronics built-in, so you don't need to have a box.

So, why do you have a box?
