This is a good tire kit to have in the car, I too have one in my cars. But I
would not consider this as a permanent repair. Someone else mentioned the
modern repair method. It is a "Plug & Patch" done from inside the tire. It
kinda looks like a mushroom. You pull the stem out the hole then the larger
top acts like a patch. Best of both worlds.

A machine screw is NOT a tire plug. Get one of these kits from your local
Auto Parts store and fix your tire. It'll take you less than 10 minutes.
Then, carry one of these kits in each of your cars ALL the time. Being able
to plug my own tire on the side of the road has saved me from tremendous
inconvenience.
