[DeTomaso] Removing ANSA resonator tips?

I ventured into the garage and checked out the ansa resonator tips. the task is a little more complicated than my initial thought.

While a 2.5" hole saw fits cleanly in the muffler and would make the initial cut nicely, the resonator narrows at the weld to the main muffler can. The 2.5 would be to large. Fortunately, a 1.75" hole saw fits over the inner baffle and would cut cleanly and potentially also cut the backside entry into the muffler can.

Then one could clean up the outside of the tip with the 2.5" hole saw. Now to find a 12" section of 1.75" diameter pipe to extend the depth of the 1.75" hole saw.

allright, you guys have me motivated. 8 -10 extra HP is nothing to sneeze at. I'll build a tool for the job. My thought is to take a hole saw that fits snug in the muffler tip. The half way down the length of the hole saw, cut it around it's circumference. I'll then weld in a 12" section of pipe with a similar OD to extend its reach. A pilot using a wooden dowel ought to be sufficient to guide for the first cut and I will remove the dowel and let the outer resonator pipe be my guide for the back cut.

Perhaps this weekend. I'll let you know my results.

If Andy still has stock Ansa mufflers then drilling the plate at the bottom of the tips/end of the muffler box is more important initially than removing the resonators IMO, I did mine with an extra long HSS drill bit and drilled a bunch of holes. Not easy to get the drill started as it is at an angle on the surface you are drilling.
I still need to get around to doing the full gutting at some point.

The resonators provide quite a restriction to exhaust flow, and Andy in the UK (he of the launching GT5-S) is looking for cheap horsepower. I seem to remember somebody successfully doing the job with a holesaw with the mufflers still on the car?
