[DeTomaso] Removing ANSA resonator tips?

As some of you know I've done a bit of modification work on my ANSA mufflers
over the last few years.   It would be great if one of the math wizards on
the forum could calculate the impact of the stock ANSA muffler splitting
from a single 1 5/8" ID inlet (2.074 sq in) into the two 1 1/2" ID tips
(3.53 total sq. in.).  I know the effective area of tips is something less
than 3.53 sq. in., but is it less than 2.074 sq. in.?   For this exercise
assume that the inside of the muffler has no restriction.
