That "manager" was Bill Mitchell, the head of design at GM. He was a man of considerable girth, and didn't exactly fit well in the car. Dick Ruzzin can tell the story best. Dick was able to obtain the car when it was offered up to GM employees in a lottery type of sale, I believe.

The way that I heard it, one of GM's managers (?) wanted a Mangusta, but with a  
Chevy engine (327 ?),  
and deTomaso agreed to build it.  When the car arrived, the new owner couldn't  
fit in it !! Needless to say,  
he was thoroughly pissed and ended up selling the car to Dick Ruzzin, who was  
working for GM at the time.
