FWIW: I think you were misinformed on so many levels, "since they don't normally do this kind of policy with their usual customers", "appraised by a licensed appraiser",
"They didn't go with the entire amount of the appraisal at first, but I got it adjusted up". I had State Farm until last year. Yes, super cheap. My premium was about $185 annually. Your agent was the one unfamiliar with collector cars. I needed pictures and documentation on like values through web site's and/or publications.

"They didn't go with the entire amount of the appraisal at first.." State Farm told you to get an appraisal from a licensed company? Why would they not insure for the appraisal amount? I realize you had to get them to change their mind. Good luck with a claim!!

If you had an accident or someone drove over your front fender. State Farm will do everything they can to repair as cheaply as they can No repaint of the car, no clause with a set amount for repaint. Not necessarily original parts. You will not deal with your agent on a claim past he/she providing the claim office phone number. Your numbers and their numbers for repair will most likely be different, their numbers a lot less. It could make a huge difference in your satisfaction of a repair.

The agreed value works well for stolen & totaled cars. Beyond that you need a company with great service for repair for the collector car enthusiast. Is saving a couple of hundred dollars a year worth the sacrifice of peace of mind? It shouldn't take long to say hell NO! Don't deal with a general insurance company when you are insuring a classic with expectations of knowledgeable people when you have a claim & need help. How much is your car worth? You want to save how much by using State Farm?

There are several great collector car insurance companies, Grundy, Heacock, Hagerty, Barrett Jackson, Chartis, Condom & Skelly, etc. Here is a list: http://www.carinsurancetoday.org/classic-car-insurance-companies

Use a specialized agent. I'm sure Tom Shinrock, Michael Shortt, and several others can chime in.

Subject: [DeTomaso] Carb Question and AGREED VALUE insurance

FWIW
I'd like to echo what Jack  DeRyke said about Bob at Competition Carbs. I have  351C stroker motor with a Holly 750 double pumper and could not seem to get a satisfactory warm idle from it and it would not cold idle without help from my right foot and it ran rich. After talking to Bob, I sent my carb to him with engine build info (cam, compression ratio, etc.) and how you use your car (race, street, track, etc.) and he'll basically modify it to your specific need. It also helps that he knows our cars very well. Just few hundred $'s and I now have a very well mannered engine that goes like a scalded rabbit when I want it to.

Also, I have an AGREED VALUE policy through State Farm. I get a really good deal from them because they uinsure everything I own cars, house, etc. I'm told by my agent that to compete with Haggerty et al, they went to underwriteing our type of cars. However, my regular agent had to call the company and find out about it, since they don't normally do this kind of policy with their usual customers. You'll want to have your car appraised by a licensed appraisor and get it documented in writing with pictures, hopefully one familiar with our cars so you have a basis for the cars insurable value. Then, I received a rider to 6661's policy stating I now had an agreed value policy for X amount of dollars. They didn't go with the entire amount of the appraisal at first, but I got it adjusted up, so that I'm happy. Also, it's been several years since my initial; appraisal, so I'm thinking I need an updated one to make sure I'm still adequately covered.
