Thank for the tip--I may have a faster-than-desirable idle for the rest of car show season, and get in touch with him when it starts raining again...
Sincerely,
Chris

Chris, I would check with a carb specialist such as Bob at Competition Carburetion -<www.competitioncarburetion.com> that builds Holleys specifically for Panteras with something in the order of 16 different changes from box-stock- not just jetting changes, either! Installed on our Pantera, power went up noticably while fuel mileage ALSO went up by 2mpg. Bob builds all the Pantera carbs for Larry Stock and a couple of other vendors. He has bailed out some Reno area car guys with carb problems, too.

A 408 stroker should have enough torque in hand at idle to withstand the load of an A/C compressor switching off/on without slowing to the dying point, which sort-of points to a too-lean idle mixture. But diagnosing a carb by e-mail is difficult-to-impossible. Bob will probably want you to send him your carb and if you do you will be astounded by the difference. Good luck- J Deryke
