Insurance companies in general don't like to deal with owners so don't
waste time getting estimates unless they say to get them. First of
all, no body in the business likes to do them, especially since there
are too many unknowns with a car like this. Just get the insurance
company's estimate and check and tell them you will have your body
shop work with them. And don't necessarily let them "steer" you to the
body shop they recommend. Remember this is just the starting point of
the process. Then pick a body shop you want to do the work and then
let them deal with the insurance company. That way they will know what
the problems are and they can use established insurance company/body
shop procedures to get more money by submitting what's called a
"supplement." This is where there may be some issues as the insurance
company may want to see the car again and discuss the repair with the
body shop. You need to be in the loop here to be sure the body shop
doesn't have make compromises demanded by the insurance company. Just
be firm, provide the documentation, don't give in. If it goes down
hill then you may need to get help or additional estimates.
