Yes. You must remove the core from the original schrader valves . 

The R134 valves have the same thread on the female side but are different where the fill hoses attach. 

On the later ('80s era)cars, the fittings are too close together on the compressor so you have 

to use 90deg change over fittings. Not sure about the York compressor.
