In the short term, it will drive you nuts.   In the long term, it will 
break.   The problem is usually caused at the most difficult point--right where 
the cable enters the back of the gauge.   On the late-model dashes it needs 
to make an almost immediate bend there.   You need to smooth that transition 
as soon as you can.   In the meantime, disconnect it at the gearbox end and 
just go by rpm and 'feel'.

Mike (thankfully fixed his ticking speedo by having Lori replace the 
cable!)
