I don't see anyone speaking up Charles. (no wonder, it's pretty well
impossible to answer now)
For a non-roller cam
..You want >9ppm
..Optimum is about 12 ppm which gives you some room for depletion
(which happens during normal running)
..Folklore says >18ppm gets you into some embrittlement issues.
(I choose to trust this one, no particular reason though)
As to what your 10W40 has in it??
2 years ago it would have had 1200 ppm. Now ?
As far as reading the designation - wtf knows what this means and this
is the API, who make up them up.
http://motorcycleinfo.calsci.com/API.html
SL Current For 2004 and older automotive engines.
SJ Current For 2001 and older automotive engines.
*CF* *Current* Introduced in 1994. For off-road, indirect injected and
other diesel engines including those using fuel with over 0.5% weight
sulfur. Can be used in place of CD oils.
Here's a blurb from Mobil pitching 0W40 and 10W40 Hi-Mileage

What would I do?
Add 600 ppm and pray a bunch.
