KIrby,
I just went thru some of this with my Pontiac Block
it had lifter bore braces, aftermarket caps, etc and
we had a problem with the bore.. It costs a lot of money
to prep another block but at least it does not have spacers
etc. I finally ordered an aftermarket Kauffman racing block
that had a lot of the upgrades already

I think if want to spin it like you do at 7000 rpm plus then
spacers etc and things just a bit off will come to bite you
Drag racers are freshening their motors all the time so
they can get away with some of the spacer fixes, etc

My vote go to your other block or get the aftermarket block if you can

My dart block has lasted longer than any engine I have ever had:):)
I have trashed a lot of engines in my past including Motorcycles,
go karts, one van motor and many car motors

One last thought did you check the balancer...I separated one on my
mustang and not too long afterwards I sheared the crank and put a
few rods out the bottom.. too much rpm but I often wondered if the
bad balancer messed things up before.. but there was a lot of vibration
as it was on the track at the time
