[DeTomaso] A new Pantera trivia topic: cigarette lighter

I have a TomTom GPS. In most other cars it just works. In my Longchamp I
have to unscrew the tip a bit so it can protrude 2-3 mm further in and hit
the center electrode. In the Pantera the lighter socket is aftermarket, so
that's no problem.

Dear Rob and Forum,

The cigarette lighter does not function at present. When
that happened, I don't know. I do know that the darn thing used to work
fine for the cigarette power plug for the CB. I have done as you
suggested although I used couple of spade connectors plus generous
electrical tape. It is much like your idea, but not as slick. I now have
power for the trip. The ultimate solution will have to wait a while.

My solution was to buy an aftermarket accessory plug that was about the same
diameter as my stock lighter socket but had a cap on top. Since I don't
smoke and will never allow anybody to do so in my cars, I didn't want an
actual lighter in it. I needed to slightly enlarge the hole where the
lighter was, but it worked perfectly as an accessory plug. When I had the
interior recovered, though, I didn't recut the hole for it and haven't
missed it with everything I need hard-wired.

Since you can easily get to the wiring around the lighter, why not just
splice an accessory plug to it where you can hook up a CB or any other
accessory to it whenever you want like this one?

Dear Forum,

I thought I would bring up a new topic since the blossom may
be off the rose of the Dipstick mystery.

During preparations for the Road to Phoenix, I found that
the cigarette lighter does not have power for the CB. Using all of my
remedial electrical skills and knowledge, I have power all the way to the
connections to the lighter plug near the ashtray. It would seem to me that
the cigarette lighter socket is shot. While I know that the Pantera
electrical system is not the most robust, I don't recall hearing that the
lighter sockets are particularly fragile. I am going to hard wire a fix
around the dead socket so I should have communications. Has anyone else
had their cigarette lighter go up in figurative "smoke"?

Curious, but still working on the Pantera, Chuck
