Good points. Also consider what the additives may do to old rubber. In 84 I filled my Mercedes 250 CE with av gas. It ran awesome! After a few miles I smelled gas and opened my hood. All the injector seals failed and av gas was running down the side of my engine.

Jerry:
I can't address the issue of the lead vs synthetic oil, but as someone that grew up in airplanes and cars (turbo's in both) the basic difference between "basic" Auto fuel (I don't want to discuss California fuel) is what is called the Reed Vapor Pressure. Essentially Av-gas has a much higher boiling temperature than car-gas. This prevents vapor-lock, fuel boiling in your fuel lines or carburetor, at altitude., Your engine suddenly quitting is much worse in an airplane than when your car quits at a stop light on a hot day. Of course the addition of Alcohol to car-gas made the situation much worse for cars. Additional fuel pressure, such as most Fuel Injected Engines have, is a method to prevent fuel boiling...
The other thing is Av-Gas has more stabilizers in it so it stores better than car-gas. (airplanes tend to sit a lot...)
I've been running Av-Gas in cars for years, when the octane demands justified it, (it's expensive!) without problems.
Of course, your results may vary!
Good luck!

Collective,
All my life I have heard that aviation fuel has additives that make it
unsuitable for automotive use. Is it only that you carb won't ice at 20,000
ft or is there more to it than that. I have been told that you should add 1
oz of Marvel Mystery Oil to each gallon of aviation gas that you use. I
have also been told to mix it 1/2 and 1/2 with regular unleaded 91 oct.
With aviation gas at $5.00 and race fuel at $10.00 it makes a difference to
me for a higher compression engine.
Thanks in advance to the collective,
jerry
