Marvelous Mystery oil has been a bit of a scam over the years. It is
basically pig fat in a petroleum based solvent with red food die and
perfume.

The need to add die to make an oil look pretty an a perfume should be
enough to make anyone weary of the product. While most say it will not
harm much they also say it does darn near nothing.

Here is a write up of it:

http://www.avweb.com/news/savvyaviator/savvy_aviator_52_thinking_about_oil_changes_196730-1.html

"Marvel Mystery Oil -- which is basically a thin, petroleum-based solvent
to which red food coloring and perfume has been added -- does seem to have
some value in freeing up sticky hydraulic-valve lifters when added to the
oil and it almost certainly does no harm. However, I wouldn't recommend
using it on a regular ongoing basis (in the absence of audible
valve-lifter clatter), and I certainly would discourage anyone from adding
it to avgas (as opposed to oil)."

On another note,

Keep in mind 100ll still has lead in the fuel. I would not run pure
synthetic oil. Shell came out with a full synthetic oil for piston powered
aircraft a while back. Suddenly they found engines were failing about 1/2
way to TBO (Time between overhaul) and controllable pitch propellers were
seizing up.

Through many lawsuits Shell bought many an engine and propeller. What they
found was pure synthetic could not break down the lead in oil and the
sludge build up too fast failing engines and locking up propeller
mechanisms.

They have not had a full synthetic fro propeller driven airplanes since.
Synthetic mixes yes, but not a full synthetic.
