[DeTomaso] Oil Restrictors Question

This is starting to make some sense now. Moroso kit on the 2-5 mains only and fit a restrictor in the crank/cam bearing oil passage.
I also gleaned some of that from the network54 forum. To confuse the matter some more though,
another option the engine builder mentioned was a crossover modification.

I pretended I knew what he was talking about

In that case, I’d just do the pan.

If you want to step it up, do the Moroso restrictors on 2-5 mains, but don’t do the big restrictor to the lifters. It is supposed to be for solid lifter engines only.

You’ll be fine.

My car was 100% stock, aside from the intake/carb/distributor/headers. Okay, it was mostly stock. Oiling-wise, it was 100% stock.

It didn’t explode, but I could watch the oil pressure drop on long sweeping turns. After I installed a large baffled pan, the pressure was rock solid. I like mods where you see the improvement right away. With the new pan, it was a night/day improvement.

I beat on my car too.

More important than oiling mods is replacing the crappy timing chain. The plastic falls off the cam gear and plugs things that aren’t supposed to be plugged. A metal non-roller non-plastic-coated timing chain set is $29. A full roller is about $150, I think. It has been a while since I’ve looked. Regardless, they are too cheap to skip.

I don't plan on seeing a whole lot of any track time.
I bought my Armando pan mainly because of

reading this forum and the oiling issues with the Cleveland.
This next engine will be a VERY large investment for me and
I don't want to screw it up!

Just remember that most of the network54 guys are drag racers. They beat their cars pretty hard.

You could argue that we beat ours harder on the track, since we’re on the gas for longer periods, plus we combine high rpms with cornering.

But that’s assuming you beat yours on the track. If you are mostly on the street, a proper pan should be plenty.

Will, I have the baffled oil pan already so thats one requirement down.
I read your posts on network54. Lots of information there!
Most concerns I read there seems to revolve around restricting oil to hydro lifters but my
mind started to melt after trying to get past that item.
