[DeTomaso] gas tank float switch

Mike is correct. You want to bend the arm down or towards the bottom of the fuel tank to get a higher fuel level reading on the gauge.Another potential problem is when you are installing the sender you have to kind of wind it or spin it into the opening in the top of the tank and you do not want to catch the float and arm on the baffles inside the tank. The sender should be in line front to rear, not angled to either the driver or passenger sides for free travel for the arc of the float and arm as the fuel level rises and falls.

Then, once "fixed" it does "work",

You can experiment with your toilet float. :>)

Think of a pointer at the opposite end of the float--when the float goes up, the pointer goes down.   The further down the pointer goes, the higher the gauge reads.   If you bend the arm holding the float downwards, when the float goes up to the same level it was before, the pointer will be pointing further down, meaning the gauge will read higher. :>)
