[DeTomaso] heater/AC blower design?

In the stock unit, I think you will find that the air flow in the bottom
half of the core is where the refrigerant coils are concentrated. The top
half is where the heater tubes are, so the air flow probably maximizes AC
performance at the expense of heater performance. Makes sense, I guess. Not
too many Panteras get snow tires anyway...and the heater is probably
adequate for the intended use.

I'm fitting an aftermarket evaporator/heater core designed for a Pantera and
spent some time looking at the air flow from the fans through the original
core. It appears that the flow is through maybe 1/3 of the core? Is this a
typical evaporator design? It seems like a poor design.
