Are you talking about the coiled spring which travels in and out of the 
tube?   The tube threads onto the end of the motor with a big nut.   Unscrew 
the nut, and then the motor and the coiled spring can be withdrawn from the 
car.   Once they are separated, you can further dismantle it by taking the 
cover off the side of the unit, held on by four small bolts.
