Jim,

Think of it as a "master" relay that, when energized, feeds power to multiple items.
Ford used this idea on the T'Birds (and others) in the late 50's to take the load off of the ignition switch.
It was called an "accessory relay".  When the ignition switch was turned to the accessory or run position,
the relay's coil was energized and the relay contacts would close, thus supplying power to the car's
"accessories" (A/C, radio, etc.) via multiple fuses located downstream of the relay.
