Au Contraire Mike.

There were 4 Panteras in attendance. I must have shown up just as you left.
They parked me in the "Police Only" spot that you vacated right near the
Veyron. Chris left next but Roydon, his son, my wife Terri and I stayed and
chatted with the passersby about our cars. As Roydon and I prepared to
leave, two 7 or 8 year old boys realized we were about to start our cars.
One said, "I want to hear this one start", pointing to Roydon's. The other
one said "No!, I want to hear this one start", pointing to mine. I told
him to stand by and I hopped in. I switched on my fuel and oil pump cutoff
switches and turned the key to on to prime the oil and fuel. The
"Pre-Luber" oil pump came to life with its characteristic whir shortly
followed by the fuel pump's whine. I leaned out of the window and asked
him, "Isn't that the best sounding engine you've ever heard?" He gave me a
real sour look and shook his head, then headed off behind my car to go hear
Roydon's. Just as he got to the rear of my car I lit it up and revved it
(which is safe to do on initial start due to my pre-luber). He must have
jumped three feet with a scared look on his face which quickly turned to a
smile. He ran to my window and gave me two thumbs up. I asked him if I had
fooled him into thinking my engine sounded like a sick electric drill and he
said yep! His reaction made my day and I think the sound of my engine made
his.

I moved my car across the street to wait for my wife who had gone to powder
her nose and a mother and son came by admiring the car. My wife and I ended
up talking to them for about ten minutes, then my wife said I should take
the woman's 14 year old son for a quick ride. Of course I obliged and gave
him a ride around the block. The look on his face when we were done was all
the thanks I needed.

I'm betting these two young gentlemen will become future Pantera nuts.

Every Saturday morning, there is a cars and coffee gathering at Redmond Town
Center, in Microsoft's backyard, and there are ALWAYS a great bunch of cars
showing up on beautiful morning. Thursday evening, Chris Papendorf,
Panteras Northwest member, flashed out to the chapter that there was going
to be a Bugatti event this Saturday morning, August 28. I hooked up with a
friend from work, and arrived at Redmond Town Center early enough to get a
front row parking spot in the rotunda with the other exotics (Ferraris,
Lambos, Masers, Lotus, NSXs, Porsches), and right next to where the bugs
were going to land when they came in.

It was a perfect day, not a cloud in the sky. There had to be 200 cars
there including those who parked in the outer lots. At 9:00, a French blue
Veyron targa, and two vintage Bugattis, not sure what they were, rolled in.
What an incredible car. I got a shot of the Veyron rolling by right in
front of 6328, and they parked not 50 feet from me. The Bugs were joined
shortly by a cream white Rolls Royce Phantom, and a 1931 Rolls Royce
Phaeton. The crowd was drooling all over the cars for about an hour and who
should show up, but Enzo himself, parked right behind the Veyron. Now, mind
you, these cars were not sequestered and roped off from the unwashed masses:
they were right there to walk up to and touch. I leaned into the Veyron to
get some great shots of the dash, and close ups of the wheels and engine.
Not everybody that will do that with a $2,200,000 car! I'll post pictures
shortly to the POCA website.

With all of this expensive machinery, it was great to get a lot of
compliments on the Panteras. We had three Panteras Northwest members in
attendance. Besides myself, there was Chris Papendorf in his yellow 74
#6152 and Roydon Hughes in his very early pushbutton #1295.

Look for pics on the POCA website.
