I have V1s. I bought the first one in 1996 & it still works fine. For those
who have a non-working V1, the factory does a complete refurbish for a very
small price. A broken unit is worth 200.00.

Radar technology has definitely moved to laser. In my travels, most radar I
see is laser. The V1 or ESCORT is not going to help you. Laser is so focused
that there is miniscule scatter for a laser detector to pick up. V1 will
tell you if your detector alerts on laser, you are in the cross-hairs and
probably dead meat. It used to be fun to beat the cops.

I had a V1 for years and loved it.  I found the directional arrows
particularly helpful but no doubt that thing is damn ugly.  The V1 finally
broke down and I was faced with choosing a replacement.

I ended up going with the Escort Passport 9500ix and have been quite pleased
with it as well.  I read the various comparison studies available in print
and online and found it difficult to draw conclusions when comparing the
flagship products from Escort, Valentine, Bel, etc.  I don't recall what
finally tipped me toward the Escort but I have no regrets.

It does the job and looks pretty sleek doing it.  The GPS database is
helpful but you do have to pay for updates after the first 3 months.  Some
states have large and frequent updates but my state unfortunately does not,
so I have not utilized this service.  The auto learn feature OTOH has been
quite helpful.

I can only offer my anecdotal experience but I have been very satisfied with
the 9500ix and other than the directional arrows, don't miss my V1.
