Amazon lets you preview pages from the book, and it's really fascinating.
The first few pages go deep, deep into the production and design history,
naming lots of names etc. Turns out there were two competing designs for
the cylinder heads, one by a guy named George Sirrat, and the other by Joe
Macura. The resulting designs were coded 335-S and 335-M accordingly.
Macura's design won, which is why we subsequently had the 351M and 400M engines.
I couldn't resist and pre-ordered a copy for myself. Amazon makes it a
bit hard, because it appears as though you can only do so by signing up for
their frequent-flyer club, which is free at first but then costs $79 a year.
But if you look around, you can find 'no thanks' buttons here and there,
and once you drill through the sales pitch, you can get to a conventional
ordering page where you can pre-order your copy. They only cost $20 by the
way.
Delivery is projected to be late November.
