I always look at the body first too.

But I'm not so shallow as to only look at the hood.

And I always make it a point to either a) bring it to my wife's attention or
b) make sure she didn't see me look.

Did this start as "check engine light"? At least it said NPC.

<< It's the mileage>>

I always look at the body first. Makes no sense to get under the hood if the
body is all messed up...

It ain't the years. It's the mileage.

Oh, a new beater.

That's loser talk, like the guys that say, "Wait 'til next year."

I admit that it is stressful to see someone park too close to my car, but I
would stress less if I had 10 hot cars at home.

Don't get me wrong. I am very happy/content that I can afford to have even
a single fun car. But... I would rather have 2 fun cars than a fun car and
a beater.

The only time I want a beater is when I need to abuse the car, like in a
rust prone area or with a farm truck or something like that. I like the
Honda Insight because it is economical and reliable - not because it turns
me on.

All good points. Throw in the fact that it doesn't hurt so bad when a
shopping cart or texting teenager comes too close to the boring car.

Sean,

If you lived the life of super fast cars, mountain villa and foxy woman
around all the time (like Dave in Durango)you would not have a comparison to
know when you are not bored...

Just an uninvited comment... I *like* having one boring car.
Dreadfully horribly boring.  I think that might make me boring too.
But I need something liek a washing machine to get back and forth to work,
and though having an exciting car for that purpose is what I used to dream
of (and live for a time) I find that my limited enjoyment of an exciting car
in commuter traffic really is frustrating.  I drive my little Del Sol back
and forth and back and forth, in blearey eyed mornings and exhausted
afternoons, grocery shopping and driving the kid to practice.  Boring boring
boring.  But it's cheeeeeap! And it just keeps running without complaint.

I have become what I despise.  A boring person with boring thoughts and
boring chores.  But I do have a few fun toys and my boring life doesn't
distract me too much from that :)
