MSD is mounted top right of firewall - there is a sheet metal platform bolted on the fire wall and the msd is mounted to that on four small "legs" (cylindrical spacers)

so i found the MSD version of the oil-less coil - their part number 8222 - put it in on Friday - worked like a charm - and no smoke

>Yes- although thats a more expensive type; a stock Ford e-coil repackaged in an aluminum heat-sink and given a fancy name. A nice heat sink is a good idea, though- they get pretty hot. It's just that they don't fail from overheat rupturing the insulating case, lose oil so the windings short, but it IS possible to fail an e-coil, too. Stock GM HEI's also use e-coils and some are remote-mounted rather than the built-in-the-cap types. You should try to match the coil outputs to whatever ignition you're using, just as you do with can-of-oil coils, too. Good luck- J Deryke
