[DeTomaso] smoke

so i found the MSD version of the oil-less coil - their part number 8222 - put it in on Friday - worked like a charm - and no smoke
 
so today took a drive south to meet LIPC member Bob Levitt to drive to the ocean road - first issue is that about a mile from his house, the cabin started to fill with something akin to steam ... or if it was smoke, it didn't smell like the result of burning - i smelled the sweet scent of radiator fluid - so assuming i have a leak somewhere that burned off when it hit somthing else hot - assume it must be under the cabin or forward of the cabin - will have to chase that down
 
 second issue, once again after stopping at bob's house, i couldn't get the car to start - we tried a bunch of things - what seemed to work was jiggling the white wire that comes out of the bottom of the MSD box (model 6AL) as that got the car going again and got me home - but something still isn't right - ARRGHH
 
thanks to Bob for a lot of help getting me going and following me home in case trouble surfaced again - he is emblamatic of what makes our marque great...the people associated with it

Yes- although thats a more expensive type; a stock Ford e-coil repackaged in an aluminum heat-sink and given a fancy name. A nice heat sink is a good idea, though- they get pretty hot. It's just that they don't fail from overheat rupturing the insulating case, lose oil so the windings short, but it IS possible to fail an e-coil, too. Stock GM HEI's also use e-coils and some are remote-mounted rather than the built-in-the-cap types. You should try to match the coil outputs to whatever ignition you're using, just as you do with can-of-oil coils, too. Good luck- J Deryke
