Thank you Doug. At $287 for a new sensor, I might just try splicing in a $30 universal sensor?

Art,

The mechanical shock from the rock can damage the sensor without any visible damage. First thing I'd try is to buy a new sensor and install it. The worst that will happen is you'll have a spare sensor. Besides, sooner or later, that sensor is destined to wear out. If the new senor doesn't fix it, suspect the wiring as it may have been damaged by the rock.

PS: The "secondary" name for the sensor likely means it's one of two that is farther downstream in the exhaust and likely after the catalytic converter. It purpose may only be to tell the ECU when the cat is lit.

  Hello guys,
I was driving my new Honda CR-Z Hybrid thru Death Valley the other night when I came around a curve and found a rock in the middle of my lane. I wasn’t able to avoid it so I straddled it but it was too tall and banged up the bottom of my car. As soon as that happened I got a check engine light which turns out to be a Secondary HO2S Circuit Fault (sensor2), O2 sensor as near as I can figure. I can see no apparent damage to the sensor but the muffler has a big dent in it. Is the dented muffler the likely cause of the problem, increased heat due to the restriction, or does the circuit fault mean there is no signal from the sensor, or something else? I know if I take it to the dealer that they will want to replace the muffler and tail pipe for a thousand dollars and still no guarantee of solving the problem. Any thoughts?

  Thanks,
  Art
