[DeTomaso] NPC - Shelby GT350-R Pictures 1965 Dallas?

Those were great times, Jerry.  I always liked that Cadillac blue that Mecom
painted the Grand Sports when he had them as a team.  Too bad Duntov never got
to finish that project.

I believe the GS was at a later time.  That weekend was Miles in the GT350 and
Bob Steele was racing a 289 slab side (Ithink it was Cobra # 5 later sold to
Charlie Prince in Houston).  I don't remember the weekend the GS was there.  I
am thinking it was a Delmo Johnson race rather than Foyt, or Pabst.  I pitted
for the GS driven by Jack Sauders at the first (and also last) Domed Stadium
Road Race in the summer of 65.  The real team was at Riverside that week end,
but we went out and showed the colors for the Mecome team.  That weekend I also
pitted for John Henry Kirby driving a DeTomasso formulae libre.  It had an
1800cc Alpha that blew an upper radiator hose during the race and made mister
Kirby the hot crotch for the weekend.  The upper hose ran into the chassis in
front of the dash board and when it came loose he was able to stand up in the
car and guide it to the side on the back streatch during the race.

Ahh the good old days of my misspent youth,
jerry
