I just had my lawn mower serviced a week ago and the mechanic said the same thing, "use only premium gas."  He had a box of broken small engine parts which were the direct result of using cheap gas. He also said the same thing about not letting gas sit in the tank for more than a couple months, and to only use a plastic gas can because today's crappy gas is too corrosive on the metal cans and will contaminate the fuel.

At least my mower runs - hopefully the Pantera will run as well soon!  :)

When I picked up a nearly-new Stihl Combi head unit and weed whacker this
last summer, but guy told me to use high octane, and buy it from
Chevron/76/Shell and not the cheap garbage gas.  He said that small engines
are even more particular.  He also told me not to let gas sit in the tank or
the filler can for more than two months as it breaks down too rapidly.
FWIW. Mike Thomas, getting ready to winterize all the small stuff and finally put
the mower away until March.
