Hey Guys, I just examined my two springs installed this past summer on my two car garage door. The springs are on a 3/4" pipe that goes across the whole length of the door. Some guys have left the inpression that the springs are "free floating" & need a cable or some 6" pvc pipe to enclose the spring(s). I guess I can't see the spring being "free floating". Myron ( the other guy in Cleveland ).

Subject: [DeTomaso] Garage Door Springs
"One method I've seen used before to help keep the broken spring in
place uses six inch PVC pipe, ripped the length, placed around the
springs and held in place with hose clamps (like those used on
radiator hoses). The whole assembly just rests on the springs, but if
a spring breaks the pipe essentially contains the shrapnel.

This , or some system to enclose the springs seems like a good idea. Didn't we talk about this a few years ago?????
My door springs are around an axle shaft and all should be pretty safe.
