For some pics of an engine/trans hanging from the back of the heads, scroll
down to the bottom of this page.

The engine assumed a slant forward in the 45 degree range. To adjust that
angle as needed during the installation and removal we simply used hand
force.

Subject: [DeTomaso] Balance Point for Engine/Transaxle Removal
I've got the engine and transaxle ready to pull out of the white Pantera.
I was thinking about bolting one end of the load leveler to the carb pad
lift plate and then running a chain through the other end to the backs of
both cylinder heads. However, it looks like it would be simpler to not
use the load leveler and simply bolt a chain from the back of one head to
the other and lift in the middle. Is the balance there close enough?
Thanks,
Dan Jones
