[DeTomaso] Tech Session and ZF question

I was thinking it felt like being in 2 conflicting gears at once but since it
occured after I was successfully moving backwards rather than at the time of the
shift, it seems to contradict that theory. Thoughts?

The only way I can think of to do what you describe is somehow selecting two
gears at once, internally. There is a shift linkage setscrew inside the
transmission that does occasionally come loose. It's accessible behind the small
steel plate on the opposite side of the case from the shift box, and ZF says to
not only tighten it but lock it with red Lock-tite. Also, the linkage inside the
shift box can loosen, too. Those links are accessible (sort of) thru a rubber
plug on the backside of the box, and inside the box with the cover off. If you
fail to find anything, call Lloyd for real expert advice. As you say, if that
happened at speed, it is possible to really damage the transaxle. Let us know
what you find- Good luck -J Deryke
