The whole idea with bump-steer correction is to straighyten the steering
rods between the steering rack and the stering arms. There are two ways to do
this. Add two 1" x 3" straps 5/16" thick with two holes in each. Goes
between the rack and the body mounts to drop the rack & steering rods for partial
bump-steer correction. You'll need four 5/16" longer metric bolts to
compensate for the extra spacers, or (better) cut down the stock outer rack-clamp
faces by 5/16". This not only allows reusing the OEM bolts, it keeps you from
having to redrill 4 more holes in the frame for remounting the rack brace
mounts.
Spacing the rack down this way also reduces the Ackermann toe-gain of the
Pantera, since the mounts are at a 45 degree angle (the rack also moves
forward). To reduce bump-steer without changing Ackermann, use the tie-rod
lowering bump-steer method sold by Quella, with two adapter-studs sold by Speedway
Motors (Quella's kit requires you to drill the taper hole out of the
steering arms). This bump-steer method uses good quality 1/2" heim joints & jam
nuts which screw right onto the stock Pantera steering rods and some spacers
to position the steering rod height. Also suggest using heim-seals (which
Speedway also sells) so keep water out of the heim joints . The rack stays
as-stock so Ackermann toe-gain is undisturbed, as is the rack brace. Good
luck- J Deryke
