[DeTomaso] REALLY, TOTALLY NPC - Where are vehicles made

Chris,

I think you need to include social security as a tax because it does not go into a personal account.  Some politicians like to tell people how they are getting so much from the government, but in reality, we all pay one way or another.  It's like the Laffer curve, but applied to the overall spending of the government.  When the government gets too big, productivity drops, and ultimately, everyone suffers.

I tough times, we all need to tighten our belts to get through it, and most people come out better off because they realize they don't really need a lot of stuff they have spent too much money on (both individuals and businesses).  When the government tries to minimize the pain, they just dig a deeper hole that we have to dig our selves out of.

I almost hate to weigh in on this, but in fact, since 47% of Americans pay no income tax (source: USA Today), the impact of welfare moms, if you include people who not only pay no income tax but also receive the earned income tax credit--a rebate from those of us who do pay taxes--is quite large.

Okay, I'll accept your 47% if you accept this from the NY Times:

A Government Accountability Office study released in 2008 found that 55 percent of United States companies paid no federal income taxes during at least one year in a seven-year period it studied.

Need more realities of how Capitalism run without thought to Country, fellow citizens or employees works out??

Just off the top of my head, with a little help from Google-

Bernie's Ponzi scheme - 50 billion

S&L fraud of the 80's - 160 billion

AIG 182 billion
----------------------------

EITC cost for 2004 was about 36 billion

AFDC cost for 1996 was about 20 billion

----------------------------

War on Terror to date - Iraq - 815 billion

War on Terror to date - Afghanistan - 445 billion

---------------------------

Are you REALLY worried about how much of your tax dollars go to welfare/EITC when compared to the other ways our tax dollars are wasted to support  never-ending wars and never-ending bailouts of those whose lives revolve around their never-ending greed and corruption?

Larry
