Original assemblies '71-'75 used no sealant, just the paper gasket. Use as 
much sealant as you like-   most leaked no matter what was done. Often the 
tiny studs holding the sensor retainer plates broke as well, causing more 
leaks. The leaking caused rotting of the right side of the valence panel, as 
well as the front crossmember supporting the radiator. Neither are cheap nor 
easy to replace. 
The true fix is to replace the right radiator tank with a custom two-part 
tank with no sensor holes or internal dividers, or better- a bigger aluminum 
radiator like Fluidyne that uses pipe-thread sensors that seal with teflon 
pipe tape. Good luck- J Deryke
