That would probably give you way too little light. Even if the lens is red
you want a red LED behind it.

The actual LED lamps are all white, correct?   That is, the colors that are
seen when the units are assembled on the car are solely by virtue of the
colored lenses, not the actual color of the corresponding LEDs?
