It seems the Italian government, trying to keep open the soon to be closed Fiat plant in Italy, the one DeTomaso has been talking about taking over for their new production efforts, is currently in the middle of receiving pitches from at least four different companies hoping the government will choose their plan and in turn bestow the government's financial support in their endeavor.

>From an Italian news website:

(AGI) Rome - Speaking to the press after a meeting with tradeunions to present the company's industrial plan at the Ministryfor Economic Development, De Tomaso's owner, Gian MarioRossignolo, explained that to develop its project at TerminiImerese, De Tommaso needs the entire plant. "We need the wholeplant," he said, "One cannot divide it up and have ten peoplemanaging it. We have presented our proposal and others willdecide whether it is compatible or nor with those of others." .

and from another site, poorly translated (sorry)

It was Gian Mario Rossignolo, owner of De Tomaso, former Pininfarina, opening round of meetings between unions and companies interested to take over Fiat's Termini Imerese. Today, at the headquarters of the Ministry of Economic Development, in fact, in the presence dell'advisor Invitalia De Tomaso Automobili was officially presented to trade unions, representatives of the Sicilian Region and the Ministry, its business plan for the revival of the plant. In particular, the newly formed De Tomaso Automobili includes a total investment of approximately € 420 million from 2012 to 2015, the reabsorption of about 1450 workers currently employed in Fiat's Termini and the production of high-end cars 38/40.000.
To give your availability, last week at a meeting between Fiom, Fim, Uilm, UGL and Metalworkers Fismic, Invitalia, Fiat and the Region of Sicily, had been four (De Tomaso, Cape-Reva, Biogen and Ciccolella) in the seven short list of companies compiled by Invitalia for revitalizing the industrial center of Sicily. Today the first meeting and the first exchange in racing: the company nursery Ciccolella would send a letter temporarily suspending its participation in the project to revitalize the industrial hub of Termini Imerese, where Fiat will end its production later this year.
Tomorrow will be the time of Spa Terms Biogen, a company that deals with storage facilities and biomass processing, and multimedia Einstain that, through its subsidiary Med Studios, would transform the site in terms of a film studio. "Rossignol - explains Roberto Mastrosimone secretary of Fiom Palermo - outlined its plan of action. He spoke of an overall investment of 420 million and the assumption of 1450 workers. But nothing said about how the money will be spent and what will the public support. Concerns about the economic sustainability of the project remain so. " The industrial site of Termini Imerese De Tomaso produce two types of high-end cars, a city car and a minisuv, which should complement the range of three cars in the plan that the company is implementing industrial factories Grugliasco (Torino ) and Livorno. To do that, as announced Rossignolo, De Tomaso needs of the whole factory.
At the moment no willingness to meet the unions received from New Coop, Piedmont company, based in Novi Ligure, which deals with logistics platforms and emptying and refilling containers and silos, and Lima-Lto spa, which is active in of electrical products with high technology. To this is added, then, the "expression of interest", but came late to the ministry (which is, however, considering the possibility of receiving the request), DR Motor, Molise group led by Massimo Di Risio, which would produce Sicily four models (the target is 60,000 cars per year), noting the plant as a whole and keeping the production cycle provided by industrial Fiat.

Now, for what it is worth..........

I was speaking with Steve Wilkinson the other week, and he said the latest news from Italy is the 'new' DeTomaso outfit is...flat broke.

But as we all should know by now, Italian business runs on an even stranger
business model than our own "American" corporations.

Stay tuned.
