The stock thermal switches for rad fans are punishment sent for being mean 
to your parents when you were a kid. They will never work reliably and will 
always leak. A good radiator specialist can take the right tank apart and 
rebuild it with sockets to take VW thermal switches that screw in with one 
giant thread. Used with pipe anti-seize, these will not leak; they are often 
used in Fluidyne radaiators. Good luck- J DeRyke
