Subject: RE: [DeTomaso] Tire pressure

Dear Forum,

My experience with two Panteras over more than twenty years.

The front tires wear almost forever. The rear tires not so much.

Ten inch rims (15x 10) and Pirelli P7s: very quickly worn in the
center patch of the rear tires. Painfully fast wear despite low, medium and
high pressures.

Ten inch rims (15x10) and BFG Comp T/As (305-50-15): Less rapid
center wear, but still wore in the center rear tire area.

Seventeen inch diameter wheels (17x11) and BFG G-Force KDs: Very
little wear with typical pressures of 35-36 psi, which is what I usually
used in the other tires. It took *years* and thousands of miles to wear out
the KDs.

Seventeen inch diameter wheels (17x11) and Sumitomo HTZ: Slightly
less rapid wear than Comp T/As and way faster wear than G-Force KDs.

In my experience, the center wear of wide rear Pantera tires is due
to tire construction more than inflation pressures. The G-Force KDs, I am
told, have a much more rigid carcass and side walls. I suspect that the
more "civilian" tires--P7s, Comp T/As and HTZs--- have less rigid
construction and permit a centrifugal outward bowing of the center of the
tire at speed when used on our favorite wide wheel rims. That fits with my
observations over multiple wheel and tire iterations over two decades.
FWIW.

                     Warmest regards, Chuck Engles

I am running Nitto NT05's235/40/18 9" width on the rim the manufacturer
calls for a maximum pressure of 50 psi
and 335/30/19 on the rear with 12.5" width on the rim. I run both front and
rear at around 40 psi although during pot holes season ( the spring) I tend
to run closer to 35 psi. I have not experienced any problems.
