The cost of a replacement master cylinder is low enough that it dosen't
warrant attempting a rebuild. I believe NAPA used to sell a rebuild kit. I
personally chose to use a master cylinder manufactured by CNC.:
This is a link to their web sight :http://www.cncbrakes.com/
After doing research on the available products I chose CNC for the following
reasons.
1.The replacement parts available from the vendors appear to no longer be
made in Italy but instead are made in China and the fit finish and
tolerances are not up to "Par"
2. CNC offers a variety of products that offers a variety of dimensions and
features that provide the ability to "fit the master cylinder to your
brakes. (These features include stainless steel lined cylinders" The
features and styles are to numerous to list here. I purchased a dual master
cylinder ( one for the front brakes and one for the rear) This set up
included a balance bar to adjust brake bias between front and rear and it is
adjustable from inside the car.
3. CNC offers a variety of cylinder diameters and you can get a set up
designed for you brakes.
Just my 2cents.
