It's exactly the same as the window gear, so the relevant articles at 
www.panteraplace.com might be helpful.

It's only slightly more difficult than changing a lightbulb though.   One 
of the easier jobs you can do, I think.   It's a bit of a PIA to get the 
plate with the motor attached, out of the car--one of the limit switches needs 
to be removed (4mm wrench required), then three 10mm bolts to remove the 
plate, which drops down and back through the front fender opening.

Once the thing is on the bench, remove the cover, remove the gear, pay 
careful attention to locate the very thin washers (actually bearings) that it 
spins on, clean and regrease and install the new gear, and reinstall, paying 
careful attention to ensure max engagement between the teeth of the motor and 
the light bar gear.
