There are also two different threaded ends.  The early one is a 3/8" pipe thread,
and the later one ("72-1/2? '73?) is a 3/8" flare.  Both of these threads are 5/8-18,
with the pipe thread being tapered. 

The orange parts book shows the heater valve part number to be a '73 number
(D36Y).  This may indicate that the early valve (D16Y?) was superseded
by the later (D36Y) valve.  The parts book that I have is an original from Ford,
and is marked "April, 1975" and "Final Issue".
